A FIFTH FORCE?
Organization is the key. A group of dots randomly placed on a page means
nothing, but when organized side by side, a line emerges. Organized
lines become figures or characters like those you are now reading. When
water freezes, its molecules become organized into beautiful ice
crystals, i.e., snow flakes. Crystals of silicon dioxide (quartz)
manifest their special properties because they are organized in regular
arrays. Everywhere in nature, we see wonderful properties of materials
which arise because of the organization of molecules. Life itself
depends on the organization of complex molecules to carry out the
functions of eating and moving. Organization might even be considered a
fundamental force in the universe. Magnetism may only be a special case
of this more general ‘force’ of organization.
